About Mr. Marketing™ PDF Print E-mail

Mr. Marketingcreates extraordinary branding opportunities for corporate, entertainment, and celebrity clients--utilizing targeted print, PR, television, infomercials, Web shows, mobile and social marketing, as well as special events.

Its founder is Stephen L. Bainton.

Prior to the formation of Mr. Marketing Group, Inc., Bainton was one of four parent-level executives to grow Continental Can to $600 million in worldwide sales in less than a decade, resulting in its sale to Suiza Foods (now Dean Foods) for $350 million.

Overall, he participated in three acquisitions (U.S., Spain, Czech Republic), the company’s listing on the NYSE, and several Senior Secured Note offerings.  In his career, he has assisted in securing over a billion dollars through various IPO and debt offerings.

For Continental Can, he crafted and executed the company’s worldwide marketing strategy, including advertising, PR, special events, website development, and multimedia campaigns—resulting in superlative placements.

Stories and profiles appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, Newsday, Fortune, Forbes, Barron’s, Financial Times, Industry Week, Wall Street Corporate Reporter, Chief Executive, the Associated Press, the cover of Greenwich Magazine, CNBC, CNN’s half-hour TV program (“Pinnacle”), as well as hundreds of local TV and radio outlets throughout the country.

Prior to CCC, Bainton was director of marketing at Ruder Finn, one of the nation’s leading PR firms. There, besides working on accounts in various industries, he also wrote, directed, and produced a TV program hosted by Joe Cappo, the publisher of Advertising Age.  This program, “FastForward,” featured British comedian John Cleese.

Bainton has written, directed, and produced videos for numerous clients, including Columbia University (admissions and football team videos), AMC Theaters ($400 million dollar debt offering), Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs (IPO), Equitable Bag, along with other clients from such notable investment banks as DLJ, Citigroup, Paine Webber, Lehman Brothers, Credit Suisse, GE Capital, and Societe Generale.

Bainton has written how-to marketing, sales, and business advice columns under Mr. Marketing™ for over eight years; his most recent article is featured at Startup Nation, (www.startupnation.com), a leading website for entrepreneurs.

During his career, Bainton has worked with a host of top-flight companies and associations, including: Procter & Gamble, Coke Foods, Tropicana, Colgate-Palmolive, Clorox, Mobil, Pennzoil, Quaker State, Unilever, General Foods, Pace Foods, House of Seagram, Glaxo, Revlon, Citicorp, Polaroid Corporation, Mitsubishi Motors, American Institute of Physics, the Department of Defense, the Museum of Holography (NYC), Columbia University, and MIT Media Lab, among others.

Bainton graduated from the University of San Diego (B.A. English), and, afterward, attended Columbia University, where he studied Screenwriting and Directing under the program’s head, Milos Forman (“Amadeus” and “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”).  His thesis, his first screenplay, was represented (with two options sold) by the late Irving "Swifty" Lazar, a top Hollywood literary agent.

Bainton was raised in Greenwich, Connecticut, and Atherton, California.  Bainton was a ranked tennis player on the New England Circuit, and played varsity tennis at the University of San Diego.  He enjoys reading, travel, the theater, and studying business models and cutting edge ideas in sales, marketing and media.

Bainton lives in Boca Raton, Florida.
